Earth Hour

Hey Xavierites!

This past Saturday night millions of people in countries all over the world participated in Earth Hour, from 8:30-9:30 in their respective time zones. Some of you may have seen the commercials advertising for Earth Hour on television or heard about it on the radio, but for those of you who don't know what it is or why it started, here is a synopsis:

"This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations." ~ www.Earthhour.org

This has such a powerful message, first urging citizens of the world that together it is our duty to care for the planet we live on, and to help preserve it for future generations. It also reminds us that we do have the ability to cause change, in this instance the dimming of a single light bulb serves to inform our world leaders of our effort, commitment and need for a change. YES WE CAN!

Benches pt. 2

Hey Xavierites!
I completely agree with Lady X, but I have to add my own 2 cents here and say that I sit my own fabulous behind anywhere I want on this campus. Yes it's true the Greeks got permission from the administration to paint the benches, however that doesn't actually mean that as Xavierites we can't utilize them. I personally used to sit on the old benches whenever I felt like it and it won't be any different now. My tuition helped pay for them. You bought the paint but we bought the benches. XU students, please do not feel intimidated by the bright colors. If these organizations get worked up over nonexistent territorial issues, then I daresay they are not upholding their organizations founding principles. (There are to many to list but we can all safely assume pettiness ain't one. Sit where you please.)

The Benches

First and Foremost, Hello There Fellow Xavierites!

Where should I start first? Well, what the hell! When did the greeks get first priority to all things XU! First, they think they can monopolize all social aspects of the campus i.e. events, secondly, the politics of the campus (you already know, I don't have to elaborate!), and thirdly, the damn one common place to all students, the UC! Who set it in stone that the greeks ruled, huh? Why are they the only ones with the luxury of getting to rest their ass (yes, I said it!) when they please? Maybe, I would like to rest my fabulous behind on one of the benches when needed! Can that be a possiblity for all of us "NON-Greeks" in the near future? Quite frankly, I feel its a damn shame that we have no benches for ourselves. Say it with me, "We Want Benches Bitches!" LMFAO....... Wheew! I just had to release! So.....that's all I have to say for now until the next bitchazz event happens!

So my fellow Xavierites have ~Sunny Dayz and Starry Nites~!!!!!!!!

Grass Stains

Hello Xavierites,

Many of you may have noticed some of the changes going on around campus, one of the latest being the new grass and shrubbery in front of St. Martin Deporres (aka STD). Yay! Our building looks nicer! Great, but is that why our housing bill has been steadily increasing? I could have sworn that the first increase was for free laundry!? I'm pretty sure that if I go to the few floors in the building that have laundry rooms, I still have to pay for that shit, (or jimmy the machine if you know how, but that's still unnecessary energy being wasted.) So basically every resident in this bitch paid $50 more each semester (every semester-check your bill) for GRASS? That's like giving money to help feed the starving babies in Ethiopia, and you find out those bitches just bought mansions for themselves. That's like giving money to a poor man who says he's hungry and he just spends it on booze. I think Kanye West said it best: "She was s'pose to buy your shorty TYCO with your money;
she went to the doctor got lipo with your money..." Mr. Sanchez, we want free laundry! Mrs. Bracy, we want free laundry! We want free laundry! We want FREE laundry! GIVE US FREE (laundry)! Or bitch give us our money back, but don't spend it on shit like grass, and not even good grass. That shit is sod! you know they are gonna have to pull it up and replace it soon. STD is on that good bullshit.

We Do! We Do!!!

Hey there Xavierites!

The polls are closed and the XU community has decided. After an election so close it came down to 9 votes, Amber Robins is our new Reigning Miss Xavier!!! We knew it would be a close race, but 9 votes? Khalefa must be pissed! We all knew Alane was coming in 3rd, bless her heart, but after that speech... (ouch). There are alot of conspiracy theories forming out there, but I don't think too many people voted because Xavier found a way to fuck up the vote yet again by changing the voting process. Instead of signing in to Banner Web and voting, you had to check your e-mail and follow the link provided. One would think that would be simpler, but changing the voting process so close to the election is just plain f*cking stupid. Luckily Amber's campaign seemed geared towards attracting those few extra voters... and apparently it worked. Her campaign was creative to say the least, and lets give the girl props... It took moxie to go out in that bright ass blue dress and crown to get votes. However she looked great and at the very least was memorable. Congrats Miss Robins! We here at Xquisite U look forward to next semester. P.S. We voted for you!

Springfest... Do Better!

Hello Lovely Xavierites,

One word... SPRINGFEST...
One Rant... WTF? Trey Songz? AND I have to PAY?!!
Don't get me wrong, I like trey songs ok, but we know you could have done better springfest committee. The choice of artist is somewhat mediocre, but that is not the biggest problem most Xavierites are having... The biggest problem is that not only do we have a LAME-ASS artist, we have to pay money to see the LAME-ASS artist, in order to afford his LAME-ASS. This is a problem. The one chance we have a year to come together as a school and enjoy ourselves, and Xavier finds a way to Fuck it up. Why on earth would we pay to see Trey LAME-ASS when, for the majority of us, after 2 songs its all shit we never heard before. Xavier already has thousands of my dollars. I am keeping this seven. Shit. I knew I should have gone to see Lupe Fiasco at Tulane. Now there's 15 well spent.
